How to generate and capture leads with no website

Most of the people in internet marketing who are just starting up, (I don’t call them newbies for a reason, because that makes people sound like they are smaller and less valuable than others) are facing a huge challenge.
They don’t have a website or their own product to promote. That takes time and months I not years of experience to create a market-ready product that sells.
They can get a website done and buy hosting, but I don’t think that it is worth to pay for hosting if you don’t know how to get targeted visitors yet. And as you learn more and more about the market, you will need to update it regularly, test if it works or not.
So what are the options?
You can become an affiliate. Unfortunately not many affiliate programs help you build your own list, they just want sales, if you are promoting an affiliate site, you will never get to know your prospects or customers.
